Spring 2014 Update
Recently a kind-hearted person indicated that Aldersgate Renewal Ministries had lost its relevance. Mindful of the invitation to be quick to listen and slow to speak (James 1:19), I took time to prayerfully reflect on the comment and on the circumstances that prompted it. During that season, I received a gift of grace from God in the form of a clarifying thought: The issue is not one of relevance. The issue is one of vision. More accurately: a failure to cast vision. It’s my job to cast a compelling vision for the mission of Aldersgate Renewal Ministries.
In the Old Testament, Joshua gave a heads up, exhorting people to prepare to be blown away by what God was about to do. He told them that “the Lord will do amazing things among you.” When I think about what to expect at Aldersgate 2014, that is the Scripture that comes to mind.
ARM provides local churches with 7 different opportunities to invite an ARM team to come minister in your local church: Lay Witness Mission, Venture in Discipleship, Lord Teach Us to Pray, Life in the Spirit Seminar, Pathways to a Praying Church, Worship in Spirit and Truth, and the Supernatural Ministry Seminar. Each event covers a different subject, but all programs are designed to assist your church in becoming more of what God wants it to be. You may read about each of these local church renewal events on the ARM website. Most of them may be adjusted to fit the schedule that works best in your church. We have received wonderful testimonies from each type of event proclaiming how God has used these events to touch and to transform both individuals and churches.
In I Samuel 30:6, we discover that right in the midst of a crisis, David did something seemingly counter-intuitive: he “encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord his God.” What? No emergency planning meeting? No immediate retaliation? No tweets, no posts? Not even a photo on Instagram?
So, you go to a local church and have come to some of the ARM events. Now what? Why not tell your local church more about your experiences? How have you grown as a result of your connection with ARM? Why should your church become involved in Aldersgate Renewal Ministries?
United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio is one of the 13 seminaries in the US directly connected to our United Methodist Church. ARM and United have developed a partnership.
Would you like an Aldersgate Renewal Ministries table-top display to use during annual conference, a district training session, a missions event at your church - even as a place for registering church members for the next Aldersgate conference or ARM event? We can send you one!
