Fall 2016 Update
Around 1100 people gathered in Lexington, Kentucky at the Aldersgate 2016 Conference, July 21-24. The theme this year was the Fire of God. Several shared that they were inspired by our keynote speakers. Each one had a distinctive message and style, and spoke to the hearts of the people – Bishop James Swanson, Sr., Trisha Frost, Dr. Bobby Cabot, Rev. Jorge Acevedo, and Dr. Michael Hutchings. Of course, each evening service ended with our prayer time for the people, but on Saturday evening the impartation of the fire of God was phenomenal. One person shared – “During Saturday evening’s time of impartation, I could feel flames in my hands and even smell fresh anointing oil toward the center of my palms.”
As I begin this article I can not believe that a year has gone by. Wow! Time flies. There have been many challenges, miracles and blessings in and through the church and through the ministries of Aldersgate Renewal Ministries. Let me start by saying that as I write this we have no idea how things will end up with the United Methodist Church. I still believe that no matter which direction the leadership of the UMC decides is best for the denomination, ARM is needed and will play a vital role. I believe that now more than ever. The need of knowing and allowing the Holy Spirit to have the freedom in our lives and in the life of the church is the only way forward.
Over the past several months the Lord has placed in my heart a new desire for the book of Psalms. I have been reading and praying extensively through these amazing verses and have found them resonating with so much of my life. Throughout the book we find both songs of praise for the glories of God’s faithfulness and the power of the lamenting cries asking, “How long oh Lord?” I find it very comforting to know that these verses continue to speak to the very essence of the human character, and to our relationship with our loving God.
Praise the Lord. The Holy Spirit moved in power during the Fall Women’s Day Apart at the ARC. Women from OH, KY, and TN experienced a fresh revelation of the Goodness of God. Here’s what the women reported:
“Greater Things” will be the very first Aldersgate Europe Conference. Christians from all across Europe will come together to be equipped to minister to the world in the power of the Holy Spirit, through authentic worship celebrations, a powerful keynote speaker and dynamic workshop sessions. We want you to have a passion and vision beyond the walls of your own church to see every church proclaim and demonstrate the Gospel in the character and power of Jesus Christ. The keynote speaker will be Rev. Dr. Frank Billman who serves on the ARM staff overseeing ARM International Ministries.
In January 2012, Aldersgate Renewal Ministries began partnering with United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH [one of our United Methodist seminaries] to provide a fully accredited 3 year Doctor of Ministry degree in Supernatural Ministry. We had our first 5 graduates last December, and two new students joined the group in August. At least one more is planning on joining in January.
“Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.”
— Eph. 1:4-6 (The Message)
As a kid, I hated roller coasters. They terrified me. Climbing to an enormous height only to come plummeting back down to Earth at a speed and angle that seemed inhuman was certainly not on my list of fun things to do. I never tried to hide my fear, either. I made it pretty clear to anyone with me. I would ride anything that went in circles, but nothing that was going to send me falling. Numerous people in my life tried to get me on roller coasters, assuring me I would be safe, that my fear was irrational. Time after time, I would get to the front of the line, only to walk across the car to wait on the other side while my friends and family enjoyed the ride. The irony of it all is that I married a man who loves roller coasters and gets motion sickness going in circles. So, I had to get over my fear and learn to ride the dreaded roller coaster.
Blessings ARM Family. Because of your faithfulness in your Prayers, Presence, Giving, Service and Witness this is what we have been able to do together in 2016...
