ARM Worship Conference '08 At The ARC

Equipping to Worship - Empowering to Serve!

Online Registration

Theme “Into God’s Marvelous Light” – 1 Peter 2:9-10 – “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now a people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.”

As I’ve been praying about this event and thinking about what are areas of worship ministry to which the Lord might have us minister, I was mindful that God not only calls us ‘out of’ but also ‘into.’  We move out-of and are called in-to.   Our development is a process.  That’s when this Scripture came to mind.

I was wondering about Paul’s heart in making that statement – that it counters the lies that the enemy of our soul often speaks to us to disqualify us from ministry as worship leaders… we are abandoned – not chosen – God not having interest in a relationship with us – unholy – we’ve blown it - and definitely not special to God…

Sometimes God asks tough questions – calling us out of our comfort zones and out of the security of using formulas of past successes. As I was reflecting on the past and the future of the ARM Worship Conference, I felt like God asked me this question: “Are you willing to let go of all that you have ever known before to find more than you’ve ever known before?”

I was ruffled by that question because what I sensed God was asking flew in the face of the conventional wisdom of, “If it ‘aint broke, don’t fix it.” My flesh bristled at the thought of letting go of the security of the ‘formula’ of the worship conference in the past. Yet, I was intrigued by the question, because it offered a potential answer to addressing the “been there, done that” mentality that causes us to not want to return to an annual event.

You see, intrinsic in the question that God asked was a promise… that we would experience more than we’ve ever known before. I am clinging to that hope as the staff refocuses and refines the conference. We are making no assumptions and asking God to rebuild the conference afresh. Are all the ducks in a row yet? Not yet! But we have made some decisions at the direction of the Lord. The ARM Worship Conference ’08 will take place October 10 – 12 and run concurrently with our leadership equipping event for local church renewal events, Power UP.

Our heart is that the Worship Conference will grow into an annual pilgrimage for worship teams to receive the equipping and empowering needed to nurture the worship life of their congregations. We will seek to strengthen worshipers, addressing issues of personal holiness and healing. We also seek to strengthen worship leaders and choir directors, addressing the need for vision and spiritual leadership. Lastly, we seek to strengthen worship teams, addressing the need for unity, passion and excellence.

In many ways, it feels like we are redigging ancient wells of biblical Truth that will provide life-sustaining water for the sometimes spiritually arid seasons of ministry we face.

We encourage you to mark your calendars and to be praying for the event asking God to fulfill His promise that we will experience the fullness of God in our lives more than we’ve ever known before.

Equipping Sessions

Curing the Moses Worship Leader Syndrome: As a worship leader, you do not have to do it all.  God may have already placed people around you who have a heart to serve!  Based on Jethro’s exhortation to Moses in Exodus, this workshop will give practical ideas on delegating responsibilities to share the burden so you don’t burn out. [Mark Barrow]

Cancelling Your Pity Party: The enemy of your soul wants you to think you have messed up for the last time – that you are washed up and that God is so mad at you that He will never use you again.  This workshop will help you walk in spiritual authority in overcoming condemnation and help you learn to develop a Spirit-empowered consistent walk with Christ. [Mark Barrow]

Bringing the Best out of Your Band:  The musicians in your band have unique personalities and musical gifting.  On top of that, they have busy lives of their own with plates that are full.  Yet, they have chosen to make the sacrifice to be a part of the worship team.  Knowing they are facing pressure to perform at work and responsibilities at home, how do you draw the best out of musicians without pushing them over the edge with the pressure of more expectations?  This workshop will offer ideas to help you nurture your team and draw the best musicianship out of them. [Steve Krenz]

Getting the Most out of Rehearsals:  With limited amount of rehearsal time, praise team practice needs to be efficient and productive and yet meaningful for all of the participants.  This session will help you avoid common “time wasters” and give practical tips on how the team can work together to make rehearsals fun and fruitful. [Steve Krenz]

Hearing God’s Heart in Worship Planning:  How do you avoid falling into a rut in worship planning?  How do you keep things fresh where the congregation enters worship with a sense of expectation?  This session will help you learn to listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit through every step of the worship planning process. [Mark Barrow]

Bringing the Best out of Your Vocalists:  Regardless of style, there are basic vocal techniques that every singer needs to know.  This participatory clinic will help vocalists learn to work together to create a sound that is pleasing, harmonious and authentic to the style of music the praise team is leading.  This session will also help you learn to speak in a grace-filled language that will help singers relax and engage in worship leadership being God-conscious instead of self-conscious. [ Jonathan Dow ]

Where’s my Towel and Basin?   Worship leadership is servant-leadership.  As worship leaders, how can we be pro-active in serving our pastor?  This workshop will offer creative ways to help develop unity in the pastor – worship leader relationship and offer insight in how to co-labor in the preparation of meaningful worship experiences. [Ronda Kingwood]

Building the Worship Ministry on a Biblical Foundation:  In this age of personality driven ministries and pop-star church leaders, how do you establish a ministry of excellence and accountability that is Christ-centered?  This session will lay out a clear Biblical foundation on which to build a fruitful worship ministry and give a framework of relational accountability that offers stability in the midst of storms. [Ronda Kingwood]

Listening to the Holy Spirit as You Lead Worship:  You sensed God’s leading as you chose the songs – you sensed His leading during rehearsal – you sensed His presence as you prayed before the service.  But then you got up on the platform and did your thing.  The Holy Spirit wants to do more than just lead you in preparation for worship.  This session will help free you from distractions and help you learn to listen to the Holy Spirit as you are leading others in worship.

If I Could Ask Just One Thing - Q & A:   The panel will come together for this session to answer questions provided by the participants upon registration for the event.  Join us for open and honest discussion about mountains and molehills in worship ministry. [Panel]

It’s Time to Give Up the Binkey: Pressing On to Spiritual Maturity:   You’ve joined the choir – welcome to leadership.  You’re on the praise team – you are a leader.   Your presence on the platform places you in the position of influencing others in their relationship with God.  What kind of a leader are you?  The author of Hebrews challenges the believers to grow up – to go from the elementary things on to maturity.  This workshop will offer faith disciplines that will help establish you on a pattern of spiritual growth and maturity.

Breaking the Bonds of Musical Mediocrity:   It is easy to fall into an Eeyore mentality when assessing your musical ability… “I am what I am and I cannot change.”  That mindset the potential of you and your team.  This session will explore the blessing of investing in the development of your musical skills and offer some “first steps” in broadening your musical horizons.
