Structure of the Event

The first 24 hours of the event focus on Returning to your First Love: Renewing your personal walk with Christ through prayer and worship. One participant wrote "Before I came to this event, I was struggling with my own soul I was dry and needed the refreshing Living Water that comes from Jesus. I was weary with churchy business and this event helped clear the air for me. The worship times renewed my spirit and the sharing and fellowship encouraged me to keep my focus on Jesus." Pastor, Texas

The second day focuses on Rekindling the Flame in your marriage through teaching and ministry. Topics include developing greater intimacy in marriage, communicating, and walking in forgiveness. The schedule is structured specifically for participants to have a dinner date with their spouse as well as ample time for the "evening out" that seems to always be postponed. ARM provides a $50 gift certificate to each couple to use at one of a number of local restaurants. One participant shared "I came for renewal in our marriage and received so much more. God created unity where there was none in our relationship; we could communicate with new love and respect for each other. God has given me new respect for who my husband is in the Lord and I feel (already!!) a new respect from my husband for who I am in the Lord. Great is the Lord on High! I give thanks and praise and glory and honor to God for bringing us to this place for renewal, refreshment, and rebuilding (on Christ the Rock) our home. May God richly bless this work of His hand." Pastor's wife, Texas.

The third day focuses on Reclaiming Your Call to ministry. Participants are invited to reflect on their call to ministry. They are also encouraged to identify areas where they may have fallen into leading their flock as a cowboy rather than a shepherd. One pastor wrote "I came to the ARC feeling physically and Spiritually exhausted, but am leaving with a fresh desire to be Jesus in the flesh to those I come in contact with where I've been planted." Pastor, Arkansas

Another wrote, "With the time you spend helping others it is great to spend time with God and be refreshed. Now I'm ready to go back and face the daily tasks with an uplifting and refilling of the Spirit in me. " Pastor, Tennessee

Retreat Leadership

Leadership for the conference includes ARM staff and selected pastor and lay couples seasoned in successfully navigating the challenge of nurturing a healthy marriage and finding a balance between every day life and ministry. One participant shared, "I'm thankful for the Aldersgate Renewal Ministries Staff for their preparation and devotion to the Lord. Their words of encouragement and affirmation were refreshing. I was ministered to and was ready to serve more fully in the power of the Holy Spirit."

Another wrote, "He [God] truly used very precious and loving vessels to perform this event. How refreshing for me to see and feel the true love and willingness of the staff team who were fluid in the hands of the Holy Spirit."

Another shared, "You bathed us in love. You are a literal life belt thrown out in the stormy waters."
Pastor, Arkansas

Retreat Location

The event is hosted at the Aldersgate Renewal Center (ARC). The ARC is nestled in the quiet and peaceful community of Goodlettsville, just north of Nashville, TN. Filled with an atmosphere that is comfortable and relaxing, the ARC is a safe place for refreshing, renewal, and intimacy with God. One participant testified saying, "I desperately needed a time to withdraw from schedule to relax and enter into the presence of Jesus where my spouse and I could just participate and not have to be the ones who were facilitating the events. I wanted to just be with her and with church family who understood this same need and desire. God supplied abundantly."
Pastor, Tennessee

It is ARM's desire to create an atmosphere where participants have opportunity to be refreshed and renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit in worship, prayer, and sharing from seasoned leaders. We also trust that this life changing event will have lasting fruit in the participant's life, marriage, and ministry. A retreat attendee shared, "We felt a beautiful impartation and expression of encouragement and freedom through worship and ministry time. We know there will be more fruit in our lives because of this event." Pastor, South Carolina

Another shared, "I believe that this is a life changing event. God brought me close through worship, through love of fellow servants, through solid seminars, and blessed sharing times. We heard from God in our crisis to just love Him and trust Him." Pastor, North Carolina

And lastly, "[We] want to thank you for a wonderful week at Aldersgate! What a blessing that you met all of our needs from meals, to motel, to sound teaching, to incredible worship, to healing and deliverance and so on! Thank you also that you all were so loving and caring. God bless you for reaching out even to Baptists! We felt loved by you all and by the pastors and spouses that attended right from the beginning. To sum it up, [we] will never forget this week." Pastor's wife, North Carolina

Additional Participant Testimonies:

"I came to this event feeling distrustful of God and the Holy Spirit. I had been involved in a Women's ministry, which had and does practice the charismatic gift of the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately, these gifts had been misused and abused, hurting others and myself. So, I had stepped apart from God and the Holy Spirit unsure of my faith and reluctant to trust. I have spent the last several years as a Martha doing the business of the church. During my time at the conference, I felt an openness to trust again and a desire to spend time being in fellowship with my God and the Holy Spirit. I could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in the music, fellowship, testimonies, prayers and speakers." Pastor, Illinois

"God began to work in my heart from the beginning in the area of forgiveness from recent family situation. The opportunity to be away as a couple, to really talk and spend uninterrupted time together brought renewal to our marriage. The whole week brought healing and renewal." Pastor, Nebraska

"My husband's heart was encouraged here, which is peace and rest to me. He was loved and accepted here, which is healing to me too. We as a couple were blessed, encouraged, lifted up, loved, and taken care of by the Lord through his faithful and blessed saints." Pastor, North Carolina

"God has moved in a wonderful way renewing and encouraging us in ministry. We have truly blessed by this experience in our marriage and in our ministry. Thank you for being obedient to the Lord to share the blessings of God's love and faithfulness." Pastor, Ohio

"Freed us from bondage to things of the world. We will go away greatly refreshed with a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit." Pastor, Texas

"The Lord blessed my heart through excellent worship. It was so uplifting to sing so much and not be responsible for leadership. I just relaxed and enjoyed God's presence in a new and fresh way. My heart was renewed for ministry." Pastor, Michigan

"A healing has begun in me that surprised me and the story has just begun. [This event] brought me closer to the Lord and closer to my spouse." Pastor's wife, Michigan
